Taking a break on the return trip to her apartment after hauling two wagon loads of belongings several blocks away to the rental house she is moving into, Bonnie Eickelschulte, 59, is pulled along by her friend and neighbor Edwin Goodwin. “My legs were hurting me,” Eickelschulte said. “I was tired because we moved so much. I walked over there (to the new rental house) three times today.”
Eickelschulte has lived in Quincy for most of her life and proclaims Quincy to be her hometown. “I was born and raised here,” she said. Living in an apartment at the “Hills” for the past six years, and dependent on her daughter to drive her places, Bonnie Eickelschulte is moving to be closer to her sisters. “My daughter and her husband will most likely be moving from Quincy after he graduates from college, and I didn’t want to be out here in the “Hills” without transportation,” says Eickelschulte. “I’m going to take what flowers(from the garden) I can, and I’ve got my knickknacks and my bird bath (to move).”
Using vacation time from work to move and get both places cleaned up, Eickelschulte enlisted the help of Goodwin to use his uncle’s wagons to move groceries and small boxes during the daytime while Eickelschulte’s daughter was working. “Otherwise we used my daughter’s van,” Eickelschulte says, “I’ve known Edwin ever since he was little, since he was about 9 years old. He was just nice to offer to help me.”
